Meet some of my favourites.

As some of you may have read, September 2nd was a special day for me. Two of my fellow colleagues and I had organized a little even where we would present some of our favourite books.

It was our first event of this kind so we were pretty nervous about it and worried for days if someone would even show up. And gosh were we lucky when a bit more than 10 teens were attending. It went a lot better than we could have hoped for and enjoyed it a lot.

For everyone who is interested, you can find a list of my 9 chosen books below the line.

Lockwood & Co. – Screaming Staircase / Jonathan Stroud

Ghosts, spectres and haunts have appeared all over England. London is especially haunted. Only kids and teens have the psychic ability to see and fight those appearances. After the outbreak many agencies have cropped up to handle the work. Lockwood & Co. are one of them. After a case goes horribly wrong, the independent agency is about to close down. To keep their agency going they are forced to take up investigation of Combe Carey Hall, England’s most haunted house. But will the three survive the Red Room and the legendary Screaming Staircase?

I loved this books so much. I loved the plot. I loved the characters (Lucy is badass and funny as heck. Anthony is just so british I love him. He’s also a bit reckless but who cares. But George is the best. He’s cynical, loves a good cup of tea and his art of work is just hilarious).

My rating: ★★★★★

Poison Princess / Kresley Cole

Evie used to be normal teenager until she begins to have horrifying dreams and hallucinations. After an apocalyptic event destroys the world like we know it, Evie realizes that her dreams and hallucinations are vision of the past and the future. Soon she has to fight for her life. Always by her side, Jack Deveaux. Bad boy with an attitude and a wicked grin. On their quest for answers they meet others with similar abilities as Evie. There are 22 of them. 22 teenagers who have been chosen to reenact the old battle between good and evil. But who can Evie trust, when it’s not always clear who is on which side?

God I love this series so much. I mean I also hate it because I’m hooked to it. I wasn’t liking Evie much at the beginning but I eventually grew to her. And Jack is just.. garh he’s Jack. This book had everything I like. Action, humour, love, zombies. I can’t wait to continue this series.

My Rating: ★★★★

Eleanor & Park / Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor is new at Park’s school. She doesn’t own properly fitting clothes and often wears her clothes in the wildest combinations. With her bright red hair she catches everyone’s attention. And not in a positive way. Park has lived in Omaha his whole life. His home is filled with love. He enjoys alternative music and comics. It’s park who offers Eleanor a seat on the school bus on her first day. At first they don’t think much of each other but soon something wonderful blossoms between them.

I don’t think I have ever read a book that captured young love so good. The shy smiles they exchange. All the blushing and hand-holding. This book will give you actual butterflies and warm your heart. I just wanted to wrap them in a blanket and keep them safe from any harm.

My Rating: ★★★★★

The 5th Wave / Rick Yancey

The story follows Cassie, a 16-years-old girl. And survivor of the first four waves Aliens have sent to destroy the world. She has to see how her brother is taken and her dad killed by the 4th wave. On the run she encounters one of those “Others”. But can she really trust him? Meanwhile her little brother Sammy is trained by the Aliens. At a training session in a destroyed city Sammy’s Squad 53 makes a horrible discovery and has to question their loyalty. Who can they trust now?

This is the best alien book I have ever read. It was so well written and the plot.. Gosh the plot. You never knew what’s coming next. Yes it was a bit confusing because the POV’s changed a lot and you wouldn’t know whose POV it was, but other than that it was great. The movie sucks tho..

My Rating: ★★★★★

Illuminae / Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the worst that could happen to her. Until her home planet is attacked by BeiTech and she has to run for her live. But she’s not even safe onboard the fleet around battlecarrier Alexander. The Lincoln, a battlecarrier that had been sent to kill any witnesses of the Kerenza attack, is following the fleet close by. But the Lincoln isn’t the only problem. The AI onboard the Alexander has gone mad. And to top everything a deadly virus has been unleashed.

Everything about this book was so amazing. The characters were very well written. The plot was thrilling. The design was incredible. And the unusual format just made everything better. If you haven’t read this book you have to add it to your TBR-list!

My Rating: ★★★★★

Between the lines / Jodi Picoult, Samantha van Leer

A fangirls biggest dream: Falling in love with your favourite fictional character and vice versa. This happens to Delilah. She is in love with Prince Oliver, the main character from her favourite book. Oliver is everything she looks for in a man. Only the pages keep the two lovebirds. But what if there was a way to get Oliver out of the book? Or maybe there was a way Delilah could get into the book? After many failed attempts Delilah decides to visit the author of the book. But will she be able to get the help she wants?

This book had me under its spell after a few pages and I only put it down if I really had to. Like for sleeping or eating. Everything about it was just so damn magical. They even included the original fairy tale besides the POV’s of Delilah and Oliver. Once you started this book you won’t stop reading until you found out if the two get a happy ending or not.

My Rating: ★★★★

Six of Crows / Leigh Bardugo

The story follows Kaz Brekker and his crew of outcasts. One day Kaz gets an incredible offer. He is offered an enormous amount of money for a simple heist. As simple as breaking into the impenetrable Ice Court, capital city of Fjerda, can be. Kaz teams includes Inej, the best spy in not only Ketterdam with the nickname “Wraith”, Jesper, a sharpshooter with a passion for a good wager, Wylan, a runaway son, Nina, a Grisha using her magic to survive the slums of Ketterdam, and Matthias, a convict and Grisha-Hunter. As a team they have to kidnap the scientist, who developed a drug that is not only highly addictive but also alters a Grisha’s power. Falling into the wrong hands, the formula could cause the destruction of the world. But will the team even get this far?

The book is absolutely perfect. It’s amazingly written. The characters are witty, loveable and well written. The plot is great and even has a touch of magic. And the pages are beautifully illustrated. This  book deserves the hype surrounding it.

My Rating: ★★★★★

Mara und der Feuerbringer / Tommy Krappweis *only available in german*

Mara is 14 years old and wants nothing more than to be normal. Not easy when your mom drags you to tree-talking seminars and you are a vivid dreamer. And when a twig starts talking to her, she thinks she’s losing her mind. As the last seer she has to prevent Ragnarök, Twilight of the Gods and end of civilization. But how is she supposed to know what to do? While looking for some answers on the internet, she comes across a professor at the university of Munich who is specialized in germanic mythology. Together they stumble from one adventure to the next.

I have to admit I bought this and the two following books a year before I actually read it. And I only read it because I girl I am now friends with read them in business school. But once I picked the first one up I didn’t put it down until I had read all three of them.

My Rating: ★★★★

Morgentau / Jennifer Wolf *only available in german*

The world as we know it is destroyed and has been covered with a thick layer of snow and ice by goddess Gaia herself. Only a small spot on earth is still inhabited. There live the last humans on earth. And Maya Morgentau is one of them. She belongs to the Order of Gaia and is chosen to be the next companion to one of Gaia’s sons. She gets to meet all of them, but when she is supposed to spend a few days with Nevis he sends her immediately away. Now she has to choose.

A friend basically forced me to read this book and I’m glad she did. You can’t expect too much depth  in this book but a love story that will make you wish you could scream and yell at the lovers but at the same time warm your heart.

My Rating: ★★★★★
